Risk & Protective Factors Affecting Mental Health Disparities
The hormonal changes of pregnancy and delivery have the potential to cause mental health crises for new parents. Factors such as culture and ethnicity can increase the risk while also making it harder for parents to get the assistance they so desperately need. As midwives, we must be able to identify the factors and symptoms of a client in distress.
Risk & Protective Factors Affecting Mental Health Disparities was created to teach you about mental health through the prenatal and postpartum stages. We’ll discuss how genetics as well as the environment and culture might affect the mental health of clients. You’ll also learn how to give your clients the best chance for preventing mental disorders from developing. The course is taught by Dr. Jill Chasse, a doctor who has dedicated years to studying psychology, public health and Indigenous medicine, and clinical trauma. Over the course of four hours, you’ll become qualified to address risk factors so you can provide the assistance your clients need.
