This course was created from the expertise of a group of midwives and ultrasound experts that wanted to expand access to ultrasound online training resources. We wanted to help practitioners who wanted the skills to perform scans to meet the needs of their patients, to be properly educated to do so, to be able to officially add this skill to their scope of practice, and to have certification to enable them to bill for the scans they performed. The course has been designed to meet the needs of practicing midwives (CM/CNMs) and worth 10 continuing education credits from ACNM. Physicians, Certified Professional Midwives, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician's Assistants are more than welcome to take this course with understanding that the certification process for Midwife Sonography offered by ARDMS is designed currently for CNM/CMs.

At this time, there are very few educational courses related to hands-on scanning, that focus on these specific scanning needs for midwives. The majority of these courses require travel to the educational site to utilize instrumentation that the provider may or may not be using in their own practice environment. This course will help with virtual training while you are coordinating with hands on support in your local area.

Therefore, this specific course has been designed to help meet the goals of midwives (CNM/CMs). In addition, the content is designed to help meet the requirements of the new Midwifery Sonography Exam that is offered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in collaboration with ACNM. The goal is to offer didactic material that directly meets the goals established by the ARDMS/ACNM. There will be an additional requirement of hands on training for any CNM/CM considering taking ARDMS certification.

This course is designed to be an introduction to and review for the Midwife Sonography Examination of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Even if not planning on taking the certification examination, this is an excellent lifetime access course for any midwife or practitioner wanting to expand their education around ultrasound point of care testing. This course is an overview of point of care, limited, obstetric and basic gyn ultrasound for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), (Nurse Practitioners, Midwives and Physician’s Assistants in OB). It includes cross-sectional anatomy, basic non-pregnant anatomy, dating in all three trimesters of pregnancy, and common complications in each trimester. It also covers the Biophysical Profile, basic physics and business aspects, including billing, documentation and liability. If you have any questions or like to connect with the instructor, please visit her website, Ultrasound for Midwives, at www.ultrasoundformidwives.com.

It was created by Carolyn Gegor, CNM, and Leslie Cornwell, CNM, both deeply knowledgeable and passionate about midwifery and healthcare providers' needs around ultrasound training and resources. They work jointly with their unique knowledge basis to make this phenomenal ultrasound training program for you to have lifetime access to!
